Doreen Edelman has 25 years of experience counseling companies on export compliance matters and global expansion. As a shareholder and co-chair of Baker Donelson’s Global Business Team, Doreen and her colleagues advise clients on their export and import compliance obligations, conduct internal audits and training, prepare voluntary disclosures, assist companies with product classification and licensing applications, and conduct export investigations for both Commerce and State Departments. Our team works daily with the Bureau of Industry Security (BIS) and the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) to resolve ITAR and EAR classification questions and to obtain proper commodity jurisdiction and classification requests with both the Department of Commerce and Department of State.
Doreen and her colleagues have well-established relationships with OFAC officials inside the Department of Treasury and have successfully obtained numerous licenses for transactions involving embargoed and sanctioned countries. Our team also assists with customs, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and export compliance issues in mergers and acquisitions, and we provide due diligence and agency, distribution and joint venture agreements for companies to use when exporting to protect them from FCPA, anti-boycott and export compliance violations.
